Patetown, Pikeville-Pleasant Grove and Antioch volunteer fire departments responded to a house fire at 779 Forehand Road Tuesday. Much of the interior was burned in the blaze.

A fire severely damaged a northern Wayne County home Tuesday, potentially displacing two.

Around 3:00 p.m., the Patetown, Pikeville-Pleasant Grove and Antioch volunteer fire departments responded to a call of an active structure fire at 786 Forehand Road. Once they arrived, they found a one story brick home with fire emanating from the attic.

Pikeville-Pleasant Grove VFD Chief Ken Jones said that he did not think anyone was in the building when responders arrived.

"I didn't see anyone, and we had to break in to the home," he said.

The cause of the fire was unknown at the time.

The outside of the home was relatively unharmed, although there was damage to the door frame and visible warping in the metal roof. Glimpses of the interior showed major damage inside, although an exact estimate of the cost was not available.

The homeowners, a man and a woman, each declined to comment.

By around 4:00 p.m., firefighters had contained the fire and were putting out hotspots around the home.
