RALEIGH -- The State Capitol Historic Site is honoring the governors of North Carolina with "Seats of Honor."
The project will add new benches to the site's original iron benches while honoring the legacy of the state's governors. Six benches were installed last month to honor Perdue, Martin, Holshouser and Scott and secretary of state Thad Eure.
All of the benches are being sponsored by organizations and businesses. Each bench contains a plaque with the name of the governor.
Benches are handcrafted by Carolina Bronze of Seagrove in the style designed in the late 1800s. The cost is $1,500.
The State Capitol is looking for groups to sponsor a bench. Those interested should email Deanna.mitchell@ncdcr.gov.
There will be a bench ceremony in October.
