FAISON -- The town of Faison will celebrate its agricultural heritage this month with the seventh annual Market Day festival.

Market Day was started in 2003 to recognize the importance agriculture has had to the town and to honor the generations who have grown up grading cucumbers and packing vegetables. This year's Market Day will be held Saturday.

Prepared food and homemade goods and crafts from local vendors will be offered for sale, and entertainment will be provided including music.

The Market Day 5K Run/Walk will offer runners and walkers a chance to take the scenic route through the Faison countryside. There is an entry fee of $20, and the fee will provide a T-shirt for participants. All ages are welcome to participate.

Registration will be accepted up to and on race day from 7 to 7:45 a.m. The 5K begins at 8 a.m.

The rest of the day's events will kick off at 10 a.m. with a parade, followed by a special presentation on the main stage in downtown Faison.

The Faison Improvement Group sponsors and organizes the yearly event. Market Day often hosts many local groups selling items to raise money for charitable organizations or non-profit service entities.
