COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: CBA grad Carter helps lead UMO past Pembroke

MOUNT OLIVE -- Ania Keene and Cyerra Carter cranked out 10 kills apiece as the University of Mount Olive defeated in-state women's volleyball rival UNC Pembroke 25-20, 25-23, 26-24 at Kornegay Arena on Tuesday afternoon.
The Trojans (2-8 overall) halted a five-match skid.
MaKayla Huber and Dejar Cumberbatch added six and five kills, respectively. UMO had 39 kills as a team.
Kamber Skeen handed out 22 assists and Kaitlin Grote provided 12 assists.
Andrea Rivera-Reyes emerged as the defensive leader with 22 digs. Keene had nine digs, followed by Michaela Seawell with seven.
Mount Olive's weekend matches at Lees-McRae and King (TN) College have been postponed due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Florence. The Trojans take the court again Sept. 19 at Fayetteville State University.
