Hartsfield leads GHS past Hobbton
Josh Hartsfield scattered four hits over six frames, provided three base hits in support of his own start and Goldsboro High outclassed visiting Hobbton, 8-5, on Wednesday at Cougar Baseball Field.
The sophomore was in command from the outset, striking out six and working around three GHS errors before ceding the cliff to Chandler Patrick in the seventh.
Peyton Wilkins added a triple to the Cougar cause, while Austin Ruiz finished with two RBI.
Patrick and Trey Adams also logged base hits for Goldsboro, who moved to 2-0 ahead of today's clash with Wilson Beddingfield.
GHS head coach Coach Danny also lauded the play of sophomore catcher Matthew Lewis, who filed a stellar effort behind the dish on Wednesday.
Hobbton, now 1-2 this season, squares off with James Kenan today in Warsaw.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Softball
Southern Wayne turns back North Lenoir, 16-2
DUDLEY -- Rebecca Coor and Kelly Dail both went 2 for 2, junior Dawn Anderson managed affairs in the circle and Southern Wayne throttled North Lenoir, 16-2, on Wednesday.
The Lady Saints (1-1) play host to South Lenoir today.
Girls' Soccer
Goldsboro blanks visiting Hobbton
Sierra Stephens and McKayla Roberts scored two goals apiece as Goldsboro blanked Hobbton, 5-nil, on Wednesday.
GHS now stands 1-1 on the season, and travels to face Wilson Beddingfield tonight at 6 p.m.
Aycock files seven unanswered goals, throttles Greene Central
PIKEVILLE -- Haley Martin and Morgan Quinn each scored two goals as Charles B. Aycock turned back Greene Central, 7-1, on Wednesday.
The Golden Falcons trailed 1-0 at half, only to post seven unanswered one-timers in the second 40 minutes.
Colleen Jones, Annabelle Watkins and Brianna Casey rounded out the Pikeville scoring bonanza, with Jones and Watkins each contributing an assist.
Mackenzie Norris stopped 11 shots in goal for CBA, which improved to 2-1-1 on the season.
