North Duplin 21,
Lakewood 14
CALYPSO -- North Duplin won a physical, tense battle with Carolina 1-A rival Lakewood on Friday, courtesy of William Archer's touchdown from nine yards out with 1:09 remaining.
In total, Archer rushed for 94 yards on 24 carries and a pair of scores, while Kenny Sheppard supplied the Rebels with 46 yards and a touchdown.
Senior Dylan Jones anchored a rock-solid Rebel defense with 11 total tackles.
Now 7-0 on the season, North Duplin is the guest of Union next week.
East Duplin 49,
Goldsboro 6
BEAULAVILLE -- East Duplin rushed for 314 yards and secured 24 first downs in a 43-point victory over new East Central 2-A league member Goldsboro.
The setback moved the Cougars to 4-3 on the season.
Wallace-Rose Hill 77,
Spring Creek 0
TEACHEY -- Perennial 2-A power Wallace-Rose Hill powered the throttle and never relented on Friday, defeated Spring Creek by a score of 77-0.
The Gators, who play host to James Kenan next week, now stand 3-4 on the season.
New Bern 23,
Southern Wayne 20
DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne raced to a 20-8 advantage, but couldn't hold on down the stretch in a 23-20 loss to resurgent New Bern on Friday.
Demetric Wright powered the Halos' effort with 59 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns, while Shawntwon Leach racked up 39 yards on 13 carries. He also scored a touchdown.
Wright also found success through the air, completing 7 of 11 passes for 127 yards.
Southern Wayne (0-7) travels to face J.H. Rose next Friday.
South Central 84,
Eastern Wayne 56
WINTERVILLE -- South Central accumulated 774 yards of total offense to blitz Eastern Wayne, 84-56, on Friday.
The loss, Eastern Wayne's fourth in a row, moves the Warriors to 3-4 overall this season.
D.H. Conley 70,
C.B. Aycock 6
HOLLYWOOD CROSSROADS -- D.H. Conley quarterback Holton Ahlers went 15 of 22 for 264 yards and seven touchdowns as the Vikings throttled Aycock by 64 points.
Now 1-7 on the season, the Powder Blues travel to face Eastern Wayne next week.
Halifax Academy 70,
Wayne Christian 50
Cameron Podruchny completed 6 of 10 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown as Halifax Academy downed Wayne Christian, 70-50, on Friday.
Winless on the season, the Eagles hit the road next week for a tilt with Grace Christian of Raleigh.
