The Lady Warriors of Eastern Wayne, fight as they might, couldn't best C.B. Aycock's ladies in a tennis match that ended prior to the doubles competition getting underway Tuesday.

Eastern Wayne Coach Craig Hassell said the team's goal entering the match was for the ladies to put on a better performance than they did last time they faced off against the Lady Golden Falcons.

"I think our scores and effort proved that today," Hassell said. "Unfortunately, it doesn't always result in wins, but our team's effort and tenacity against a very talented, deep and experienced Aycock team showed itself today."

Hassell said his team has made improvements throughout the year, but is overall still a young team.

He added that he hopes the team can carry its effort from Tuesday into today's non-conference match against Princeton.

In singles competition, Meredith Jones def. Bella Bowen 6-3, 6-1; Grayson Lane def. Emily Stratton 7-5, 6-2; Karlyn Ray def. Maddie Agner 4-6, 6-0, 1-0;  Lexi Reeves def. Amelia Dunmire 6-1, 6-0; Hannah Tyndall def. Ava Bowen 6-1, 7-6; and Abbie Shackleford def. Bess Gibson 6-1, 6-2.
