The Lady Blues of Charles B. Aycock won their volleyball match against Greene Central handily Monday night in three sets, 25-7, 25-14 and 25-13.

Senior Arlanda Faulkner and Junior Daelyn Brock led the team to victory with 14 kills and 11 kills, respectively.

Faulkner had a .632 hitting percentage, taking advantage of a hearty amount of opportunities during the match.

The Lady Falcons had 13 service aces on the evening, and had a combined 48 digs.

Senior Cassandra Lassiter led the team on digs, clocking in 18 of them.

Faulkner and Brock followed not so far behind with 8 and 7 digs, repectively.

Goldsboro 3,

Southern Wayne 0

Goldsboro High School's women's volleyball defeated Southern Wayne in three sets Monday.

Goldsboro crossed off the Saints in three set scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-22.

Soccer

Beddingfield 2

Goldsboro collected a non-conference win on Monday with a narrow victory over Wilson Beddingfield.

Pacing the Cougar effort was the triumverate of Connor Pate, Chandler Patrick and Jakob Lassiter, each of whom scored a goal.

GHS begins East Central 2-A conference play at home on Wednesday versus James Kenan.

 

North Duplin 6,

Neuse Charter 2

North Duplin defeated Neuse Charter, 6-2, in Carolina 1-A play on Monday.

Eli Aguirre paced the Rebels with a hat trick (three goals), and was joined in the official scorebook by Wilber Velasquez, Irvin Nunez and Joan Velazquez, who scored on a penalty kick.

"Neuse jumped out quick, taking advantage of gaps in our defense," head coach James Foster said. "We struggled staying onsides against a disciplined Neuse Charter defense... we still (have) to develop a stronger defense."

Raul Romera logged 11 saves in goal for North Duplin, who moved to 2-1 on the season.

The Rebels travel to face league opponent Lakewood on Wednesday.  

Golf

Sauls is medalist  

Abby Sauls gave Charles B. Aycock a star-performance on Monday, filing a nine-hole scorer of 39 to take home medalist honors at Southern Wayne Country Club.

But it wouldn't be enough to carry the team, as New Bern won out with a combined score of 119.

Charles B. Aycock followed closely behind with a score of 139. D.H. Conley racked up 167, while both Southern Wayne and South Central put 187 on the board. J. H. Rose came in last with a combined score of 204.

Eastern Wayne 0,

Clinton 2

Eastern Wayne's junior ladies volleyball suffered a 0-2 loss at the hands of Clinton Monday night.

Ayanna Bynum led Eastern Wayne with three kills.

C.B. Aycock 2,

Greene Central 0

The C.B. Aycock junior blues mirrored the results of the varsity girls by winning their volleyball match against Greene Central on a clean sweep Monday.

C.B. Aycock handed the loss to Greene Central by scoring 25-20 and 25-16.

Football

The Rosewood junior varsity football team moved to 3-0 last week with a 22-0 shutout of visiting Pender.

Quarterback Will Harris led the rout by going 5-10 through the air for 102 yards and two touchdowns, both to wideout Davian Thompson.

Harris also scored on a touchdown run of five yards.

Defensively, Eli Joyner paced RHS with nine tackles. Avante George picked off a Pender pass, and Tyshawn McCoy recovered a fumble.

Middle School

Volleyball

Norwayne 3, Dillard 0

Norwayne Middle cruised to a straight-sets victory over Dillard in its first match of the season on Monday.

The line score was 25-6, 25-7 and 25-18.

Norwayne will face Wayne School of Engineering on Thursday.

Grantham 3,

Spring Creek 1

Grantham defeated Spring Creek on Monday by a 25-17, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-22 margin.

Emma Proctor had 27 points, eight service aces and a pair of kills for Grantham. Allie Lane totaled 23 points, nine aces and a kill.

Katie Toler and Lacey Warters rounded out the Grantham effort by registering a kill.

Karina Trejo had 24 points and four aces for SC, while Anna Wooley contributed 16 points and one ace.

Grantham is now 1-0 overall on the season, and travels to face Brogden on Thursday.

Spring Creek (0-1) will play host to Dillard.
