BOYS' TENNIS: Eastern Wayne crushes South Central

WINTERVILLE -- Eastern Wayne posted three straight-set shutouts in singles play and breezed past South Central, 9-0, in an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference match Thursday afternoon.
Top-seeded Dylan March, fourth-seeded Ian Burchett and fifth-seeded Daniel Stevens did not drop a game during their respective match. the trio of Walker Davis, Yoseph Yan and Nathan Fleming combined to lose five games.
March-Davis, Yan-Burchett and Stevens-John Davis sealed the road shutout in doubles.
"The guys are starting to bond together and feel more confident with their game as a team," EW head coach Craig Hassell said. "(I'm) especially proud of Nathan, our lone senior, who stepped up today in the absence of Anass Sarah. John, a freshman, got his first career win at number three doubles.
"These conference wins this past week will give us confidence heading into a big match at home (next Tuesday)."
The Warriors (6-3 overall, 4-2 ECC) entertain New Bern with second place in the league at stake.
