WENDELL -- Joshua Wallace emerged as the 182-pound individual champion and short-handed Charles B. Aycock placed 10th overall during the Jolly Roger Invitational contested at Corinth-Holders on Saturday.

The Golden Falcons failed to fill seven weight classes due to either illness or injury.

Wallace, the top seed, scored an 11-1 major decision over Corinth-Holders' Seamus Brennan in their championship match. A senior and returning state qualifier, Wallace walked away with an unblemished 39-0 worksheet for the season. He accounted for 24.5 of Aycock's 58.5 team points on the day.

Tyler Hughes bounced back from a semifinal-round loss to take third overall at 152 pounds. The freshman knocked off third-seeded Zach Lanier of Cleveland, 8-6.

Hughes is 38-6 overall this season.

Sophomore heavyweight Torrance Franklin made his first-ever appearance in the medal round and placed fourth. He won three consecutive matches in the wrestle-back portion (consolation) of the 23-team tournament.

"After wrestling last night (Friday) and to have those three perform as they did, I was extremely proud of their efforts," CBA head coach Brian Doyle said. "I told them on the bus you are here to wrestle, so do that ... wrestle, and they did."

Chris Parks (126 pounds) fell in the fourth round of consolation action. Jonas Creel (138) and Zack Creel (145) were each eliminated in the second round of consolation matches.

Bryce Adams fell in the opening round of consolation play at 220 pounds.

The Golden Falcons get a few days to mend some broken wings before they participate in the Buzzard Brawl -- a grueling two-day, 30-team tournament which begins Friday at Campbell University.

"I'm looking forward to getting some of our missing pieces back for that event," Doyle said. "That will be a nice test to see exactly where we stand individually in terms of our regional competition, so it should be fun."
