BETHEL -- Joshua Wallace kept his worksheet spotless and Charles B. Aycock finished fifth overall during the Panther Invitational contested at North Pitt High School.

Wallace improved to 23-0 with a 3-2 victory over Lumberton's Derrick McCall in the 182-pound weight class. A returning state qualifier, Wallace pinned Hertford County's Josh Wolverton and Holly Springs' Ed Callahan on the way to the finals.

Junior Austin Doyle (18-4 overall) finished runner-up at 106 pounds after an 8-3 loss to top-seeded Sincere Johnson of Lumberton.

Sophomore Jonas Creel secured third place at 138 pounds with an ultimate tiebreaker 4-3 victory over Southern Nash's Nick Serrano. Serrano was called for an illegal figure-four leg lock.

Freshman Tyler Hughes captured fourth at 152 pounds after falling 5-3 to Pamlico's Anthony Davis in their consolation-round final.

"Six weight classes went empty due to either injury or illness," said CBA head coach Brian Doyle, whose team compiled 76 points. "Of the eight that wrestled, half made it to the medal round."

Canon Barrett (12-4) and Zack Creel (14-13) advanced to the consolation semifinals at 113 and 145 pounds, respectively. Devin Maldonado (120 pounds) and Noah Overton (160) were each knocked out in third-round consolation action.

The Golden Falcons return to action at home Wednesday in the annual Pilkington Memorial Duals. The seven-team, round-robin event begins at 3:30 p.m.
