PRINCETON -- Senior guard Alexis Edmundson led all scorers with 19 points as Charles B. Aycock dispatched South Johnston, 53-39, in the consolation bracket of the Quickshirt.com Holiday Basketball Invitational on Tuesday at Deacon Jones Gymnasium.

The performance was an about-face for the Golden Falcons, who ran out of second-half steam during Monday's 15-point setback to Midway.

"We needed to break this three-game losing streak before Christmas," said CBA head coach Tangela Faulkner. "I told them we would come out in a press, and they did a good job of executing it."

Did they ever.

Aycock opened with a full court, 2-2-1 swarm and dug in defensively, forcing 28 turnovers in the contest and limiting the Trojans to single-digit point totals in the second, third and final quarters.

Edmundson and Tanika Powell handled the rest.

Both seniors were cool in the face of a spirited South Johnston outfit, orchestrating a sense of calm and registering 22 of Aycock's 28 second-half points.

Spelling Powell at the point guard slot, Edmundson routinely found scoring opportunities in the paint and iced matters down the stretch, going 6 of 7 from the charity stripe in the second half.

Powell, returning from an ankle injury in the tournament opener, made five triples en route to being tabbed an all-tournament selection. The versatile senior averaged 19 points, five rebounds and three assists over the two games.

Aycock (7-4 overall) also got 10 points from Cassandra Lassiter. Arlanda Faulkner, Destiny Washington and Cara Lenzi rounded out the Falcon score book, combining for six points.

South Johnston (0-10) was led by Carmen Keene, who filed 12 points.
