FOOTBALL: Rampants win league shootout against Golden Falcons

GREENVILLE -- Dontavies Harris punched in the game-winning touchdown with 23 seconds remaining, and J.H. Rose turned back Charles B. Aycock, 56-49, on the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference football scene Friday evening.

Harris rushed for 245 yards and six TDs on 25 totes.

The Golden Falcons (5-4 overall, 1-3 ECC) dropped their first road game of the season.

Caleb Gough rambled for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 4 and 5 yards. Tim Farmer collected 78 yards rushing, while Mike Hemmingway added 21 yards and a TD on seven carries.

Aycock senior Jake Flowers completed 18 passes to five different receivers for 304 yards. N.C. State commit Damien Darden pulled in five receptions for 104 yards, including a 12-yard scoring strike in the second quarter.

Jordan Woodard had four catches for 99 yards, followed by Chandler Matthews with 86 yards on six receptions. Matthews reeled in a 40-yard TD pass from Flowers to give the visitors a 34-28 advantage at halftime.

One of the ECC's top-scoring offenses, Aycock compiled 511 yards of total offense on 75 plays. The Golden Falcons have scored 30 or more points in eight of nine outings this season.

The teams combined for 1,097 yards of total offense on 113 plays.

Aycock entertains Eastern Wayne on Friday.
