WARSAW -- James Kenan continues to find its swagger after a 48-29 victory over Carolina 1-A Conference rival Spring Creek at Bill Taylor Field on Friday evening.

The Tigers (4-5 overall) outscored the Gators 29-7 during the middle two periods to claim their third league victory of the season.

"With their starting quarterback (Ken Avent III) back, they got the ball into some open spaces," SC head coach Aaron Sanders. "We did a lot of good things. They wore on us a little bit and we gave up the big play on a couple of different occasions.

Jamaal Davis and JaVon Newsome paced the Gators' ground attack with 73 and 66 yards, respectively. Davis broke loose for a 43-yard TD in the fourth quarter.

Landon Smothers completed 11 of 29 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns -- a 3-yard pass to Najee Young and a 13-yard strike to Jamerion Dawson. Young ended the night with 60 yards receiving.

Casper logged 78 yards on three catches.

Linebacker Nick Strickland spearheaded the SC defense with three tackles, six assists and one tackle for loss (TFL). Brandon Wood-Potter recorded three tackles, two quarterback sacks and one TFL. Spencer Jameson contributed three solo stops, two assists and one TFL.

Newsome and Xavion Garcia posted three tackles apiece.

Spring Creek (3-6, 2-2) takes on North Duplin on Friday.
