CROSS COUNTRY: Chargers' Atwood, Jones each take 1st place

RALEIGH -- Cole Atwood and Janae Jones each finished first in their respective races, and led Wayne Country Day to team victories during a meet contested at Wake Christian Academy.
Atwood crossed the line first in 18 minutes, 56 seconds. Teammates Connor Bauer (3rd, 20:52), Suraj Patel (7th, 21:36), Case Kermode (9th, 21:57) and Brandon Talton (11th, 22:12) also contributed to the team win.
Jones covered the 5k trek in a meet-best time of 23:06. Gray Young captured third in 23:46. She was followed by Ashton Gupton (6th, 26:43), Katherine Eltz (8th, 27:16) and Neha Patel (10th, 27:30).
WCDS plays host to an eight-team meet on Monday.
