Wayne Country Day built a six-goal advantage during the first 12 minutes and hammered Christ Covenant, 11-0, in mercy-rule fashion on the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference scene Friday afternoon.

The game was called at halftime.

Nehemiya Shaw, Hunter Bryson, Ben Cohen and midfield general Noah Adkins knocked in two goals apiece for the Chargers -- the reigning N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A state champions.

David Gurley, Marquise Newell and John Thompson each punched in one goal. Thompson distributed a match-high three assists. James Thompson and Luis Lopez each logged two assists.

Bryson, Newell, Gurley and Cole Brewer each had one assist.

WCDS posted its sixth shutout of the season and improved to 2-1-0 against CPIC opposition this season. The Chargers (9-2-0 overall) continue play Tuesday at CPIC foe Pope John Paul.
