Volleyball

Rosewood 3,

North Johnston 1

* Senior Hannah Daniels pounded out 12 kills as Rosewood knocked off North Johnston 25-20, 25-14, 24-26, 25-17 on Wednesday afternoon.

Ada Rivera, Toree Marak and Braylee Butts added eight kills apiece for the Eagles, who claimed their second consecutive win after an 0-8 start to the season. Marak and Daniels each logged five blocks.

Kaitlyn Kincaid dished out 18 assists and Rivera delivered 10 assists.

Carrie Beckert emerged as Rosewood's defensive leader with 16 digs. Rivera recorded 11 digs and Kincaid supplied 10 digs. The Eagles registered 61 digs as a team.

Goldsboro 3,

Beddingfield 1

* Becca Pittard posted a double-double -- 14 kills, 15 digs -- as Goldsboro battled past Beddingfield 22-25, 25-13, 25-9, 25-20 on Wednesday afternoon.

Riley Howell doled out 20 assists and served seven aces. Amber Pfennig had seven aces and 11 digs. Mckayla Roberts contributed seven kills, while Dakota Jones contributed 10 digs.

Goldsboro (6-4 overall) is the guest of Neuse Charter on Monday.

C.B. Aycock 3,

North Lenoir 1

* La GRANGE -- Hannah Carter dished out a career-high 45 assists and Charles B. Aycock bounced back from an opening-set loss to defeat North Lenoir 22-25, 25-11, 25-19, 25-23 inside Wooten Gymnasium on Wednesday afternoon.

Arlanda Faulkner posted a career-high 24 kills, while Cyerra Carter added 11 in the four-set affair. Hannah Carter and Mookie Powell contributed five kills apiece.

The Golden Falcons served eight aces, recorded eight blocks and picked up 51 digs as a team. Faulkner (20 digs), Cassandra Lassiter (13 digs) and Powell (11) led the defense.

CBA puts its 11-game win streak on the line today at D.H. Conley.

Princeton 3,

Hobbton 0

* NEWTON GROVE -- Beth Braswell distributed 19 assists during Princeton's 25-13, 25-20, 25-15 conquest of Carolina 1-A Conference foe Hobbton on Wednesday evening.

Daisey Ecklund paced the Bulldogs with 15 kills, three service aces and two blocks. Kortney Edwards contributed five kills, while Emily Ricks had three kills.

The Bulldogs entertain Spring Creek today.

Boys' soccer

Spring Creek 4,

Eastern Wayne 0

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Alex Avila knocked in two goals as Spring Creek upended Eastern Wayne, 4-0, in non-conference action Wednesday evening.

Avila received two assists from Hugo Zavala Gil.

Gustavo Avalos tallied one goal off Jose Reynaga's assist. Milton Bautista added goal off Bryan Miranda's assist.

Eastern Wayne dropped to 3-3-1 this season.

One day earlier, Gustavo Avalos punched in two goals during the Gators' 3-0, non-conference triumph over South Lenoir. Avalos scored on assists from Josh Beckerman and Gil.

Avila tallied an unassisted goal.

The Gators improved to 5-0-1 overall.

Midway 5,

North Duplin 3

* SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Dario Castenada tallied three points -- one goal, one assist -- during North Duplin's 5-3, non-conference loss to Midway on Wednesday afternoon.

Castenada scored in the 36th minute on assist from Wilber Velasquez and assisted on Juan Garcia's game-tying goal in the 58th minute. The Raiders tallied the game winner in the 58th minute and got an insurance goal in the 79th.

Velasquez punched in a goal in the 22nd minute off Luis Velasquez's assist.

The Rebels (1-2-1 overall) open Carolina 1-A Conference play Monday at Neuse Charter.

Girls' tennis

North Johnston 7,

Princeton 2

* Jasmine Rubio and Katherine Leslie each picked up a singles point during Princeton's 6-3, non-conference loss to county rival North Johnston on Wednesday.

Rubio defeated the Panthers' Lanie Headley 8-2 at the No. 4 flight. Leslie rolled past Allison Bunn 8-1 at the No. 6 slot.

The teams played pro sets (eight games).

Princeton's top-seeded doubles of Emily Shallington-Mackenzie Evans claimed an 8-3 win.

Cross country

Owens places third

* WINTERVILLE -- C.B. Aycock's Deshawn Owens secured third overall individually during an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet ran at Boyd Lee Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Owens turned in a time of 18 minutes, 49.78 seconds.

Southern Wayne's Thomas Bless took sixth in 19:46.13. The Golden Falcons' Mitch Castorena (19:47.51) and Davis Carroll (20:06.06) placed seventh and 10th, respectively.

Zack Childress led Eastern Wayne's charge with a 22nd-place time of 20:51.82. Teammate Justin Neely was 27th in 21:24.39.

South Central edged CBA 56-59 to win the team portion of the meet.

On the girls' side, the Golden Falcons' tandem of Sarah Gregory (25:04.78) and Tara Price (25:50.4) crossed the line 10th and 13th, respectively.

Eastern Wayne's Paige Childress took 12th in 25:43.58. Fellow Warriors Yuka Akiyama (26:58.89) and Emma Diemecke (26:59.62) secured the 24th and 25th spots, respectively.

Caroline Best paced Southern Wayne with a 31st-place effort of 27:19.64.

Area runners compete

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Princeton's Austin Sullivan and North Duplin's Haley Thurston emerged victorious during a Carolina 1-A Conference meet contested at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park.

Sullivan posted the top boys' time of 19 minutes, 8 seconds. Teammate Brent Hurst placed second in 19:36.

Spring Creek's Levi Miller took fourth in 21:14.

Rosewood's trio of Cameron Smith (21:51), Owen Blevins (22:46) and Spencer Riggs (23:25) finished among the top 12.

Rafael Lainez led North Duplin with a 21st-place time of 26:27.

Thurston ran the hilly 5k trek in 22:39 -- 17 seconds faster than meet runner-up Ashley Hinterleiter of Hobbton. North Duplin's Kendy Rangel (25:10) crossed the line third, followed by Rosewood's Elaina Amy (26:13) and Hobbton's Krystal Martinez (28:34).

The remainder of the top 10 -- Allie Britt (Princeton, 29:07), Denisse Sada (Hobbton), Rebecca Fitzmaurice (RHS, 29:17), Esmeralda Lopez Pere (ND, 29:26) and Gabrielle Williams (Hobbton).

Hobbton won the team portion of each race.

JV

* Volleyball: Eastern Wayne 25-17, 25-10 -- Sophomore Ziomara Williams recorded three kills and served two aces as the Warriors (1-8 overall) snapped an eight-game losing streak Wednesday afternoon. Demya Yelverton notched three aces. Freshman Justice Jones had six digs.

* Boys' soccer: Wayne Country Day 1, Parrott Academy 1 -- Tanner Willman converted a penalty kick with about 10 minutes remaining in regulation Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots tallied the game-tying PK about five minutes later.

* Volleyball: C.B. Aycock d. North Lenoir 25-11, 25-16 -- Sophomore Daelyn Brock led the Golden Falcons with seven kills. Freshman Lydia Butler had four kills, while teammates Ansleigh Boyd and Victoria Patnaude each collected three kills. Butler, Patnaude and Abigail Lancaster combined to serve 12 of the team's 18 aces. Lancaster registered nine digs on defense, followed by McKenzie Norris with seven. Norris passed out 15 assists.

* Volleyball: Goldsboro d. Beddingfield 25-10, 25-16 -- Grace Tart paced the Cougars with six kills and four aces. Nikki Olmsted had four kills and five aces. Fayth Serlick chipped in with 10 digs. The Cougars improved to 8-2 overall this season.

* Volleyball: Rosewood d. North Johnston 2-1 -- Sophomore Maddie Honn had three kills. Junior Allana Atwell and sophomore Lana Nuwara provided two kills apiece. Freshman Miyah McCall posted two blocks. Rylee Myers dished out seven assists.

* Volleyball: Princeton d. Hobbton 2-0 -- The Bulldogs play host to Spring Creek today.

* Girls' tennis: Kerr-Vance Academy 6, Wayne Country Day 3 -- Hanna McKeithan, Cady Stanley and Diya Shreenath each earned a singles point during the Chargers' non-conference loss Wednesday afternoon.

*Volleyball: North Duplin d. Spring Creek 25-23, 21-25, 15-12 -- The Rebels (2-4 overall) won their first Carolina 1-A Conference match of the season in three attempts. Shae Odom served four aces and handed out six assists for the Gators. Emily Dupuy recorded three kills, one ace and three blocks. Alex Jordan registered one ace, one dig and three kills.
