PIKEVILLE -- After the last out was made and the teams shook hands, the C.B. Aycock coaches yelled and brought all of their players to left field to practice base running several times.

By the team's reaction, the result of the Eastern Carolina Baseball League game against Southern Wayne should've been obvious. But the scoreboard in center field told a different story -- the Golden Falcons achieved an 11-6 victory over the Saints.

Despite the win, Aycock head coach Jon Horton did not believe the team played up to its usual standard.

"We lost focus," Horton said. "We weren't hitting like we were supposed to. We were dropping balls, had errors -- things like that. Doing the little things right is where we messed up at."

The Golden Falcons blitzed the Saints with a 9-0 start through the first three innings. Among the damage was a two-RBI double by Jakob Prebe in the first inning and a two-RBI triple by Davis Carroll in the third.

Southern Wayne - coming off a 15-0 loss to Spring Creek last Thursday - refused to be shut out again. After an RBI-single by Hunter Strickland in the fourth inning, the Saints filled the fifth frame with four runs.

Jacob Campbell added a RBI-groundout in the sixth.

The Golden Falcons managed to tack on two more insurance runs in the sixth inning thanks to RBI-singles from Carroll and Ty Smith.

Aycock used five different pitchers who combined for 13 strikeouts.

"We didn't help out our pitchers," Horton said. "But we're getting better. We're young -- they're eighth- and ninth-graders -- so overall, we threw the ball well. We just have to focus in a little better and play defense behind them."

Luke Davis pitched three innings, gave up nine runs and struck-out three batters for SW White. Chuck Absolao pitched two innings and allowed two hits, and Strickland gave up two runs on two hits in one inning.

In what seemed to be a loss of focus for Aycock, turned out to be a boost in confidence for Southern Wayne going forward -- no matter the final score.

"They believed in themselves this time," Williams said. "Before they went out, they heard Spring Creek had some guys who were going to be seniors and juniors. And one of the things they don't understand is that everybody puts their pants on the same way. They all bleed the same.

"So if he can do it, I can do it."
