Mitch Turnage squelched a seventh-inning rally, and Wayne Country Day upended Eastern Wayne, 6-5, in an Eastern Carolina Baseball League game contested Monday afternoon.
Strickland relieved Amane Godo, who worked five solid innings and cranked out two hits on offense. Middle reliever John Strickland tossed one inning. Turnage threw the final inning to get the save.
The trio combined for nine strikeouts.
Jason Mitchell's two-RBI double put the Warriors ahead early.
Strickland answered with a game-tying two-RBI double and the Chargers moved in front on Zach Barfield's yard-clearing, two-RBI home run. It was Barfield's first career home run.
Tanner Bradley and Mitch Turnage each had two hits for WCDS.
Eastern Wayne pulled to within 6-5 on Jacob Ginn's three-run HR.
The Chargers continue play today at North Lenoir, while Eastern Wayne is the guest of Southern Wayne Blue.
