MOUNT OLIVE -- Zak Orrison's fourth-inning, bases-clearing single sparked University of Mount Olive past in-state rival Winston-Salem State, 5-1, at Scarborough Field on Friday afternoon.

Tied at 1-1 through 31/2 innings, Bradley Ragan started the game-deciding rally with a one-out single in the bottom of the fourth. Ricky Surum drew a walk and both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch.

Brandon Day drew a walk to load the bases and set the table for Orrison, a preseason all-Southeast Region selection. Orrison hit a towering pop fly to left field that the WSSU defense couldn't field cleanly.

Brett Lang capped the scoring with an RBI single in the seventh.

Brighton Hudson (6-3) worked five innings and permitted the Rams to a single run off three hits. The Garner Magnet graduate fanned six WSSU batters.

The Trojans, who have won 12 of their last 16 games, return home May 11 to face in-state foe Chowan University.
