Langley Barnes collected Wayne Country Day's lone goal in a 2-1, non-conference loss to perennial powerhouse Kerr-Vance Academy on Monday afternoon.
Barnes converted a free kick after Gianna Democko drew a foul.
KVA tied the game at 1-1 before halftime. The Spartans added a second-half goal.
"It was a tough loss tonight and nothing between the two teams," WCDS head coach Steve Ellis said. "It was a very tight game and Kerr Vance had two hit-and-hope shots that went in to beat us. The girls played well though and deserved more from the game."
The Chargers (8-7-1 overall) conclude regular-season play Thursday at Ahoskie Ridgecroft.
