New Bern emerged victorious at No. 1 doubles and slipped past Eastern Wayne, 5-4, in a tightly-contested Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference match Tuesday afternoon.
It was the Warriors' third one-point loss in ECC play this season.
"I thought our team fought hard today and just came up a little short," Warriors head coach Craig Hassell said. "We just have to learn how to finish matches, but I saw tremendous fight in our team today, which is a positive to build on as we prepare for another tough, but evenly-matched opponent next Tuesday at Greenville Rose."
Elizabeth Sutton and Samantha Roux each earned a singles point for Eastern Wayne. Sutton-Bella Bowen and Brennan Dove-Roux each won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.
The Warriors (4-5 overall) dipped to 4-4 in the ECC.
