Rebels' Faircloth, Thurston lead respective fields in Carolina cross country meet

SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Duplin's LJ Faircloth crossed the line in 19:38 and took first place during a Carolina 1-A Conference boys' meet contested at picturesque Cliffs of the Neuse State Park.
Princeton runners Austin Sullivan (19:40), Jose Moreno (20:18) and Brent Hurst (20:18.2) took the next three spots. Spring Creek's Levi Miller claimed sixth in 20:45, followed by Rosewood's Dalton Farmer in 21:32.
Rosewood and Hobbton tied with 47 team points, but Hobbton was declared the meet winner with the higher sixth-place finisher. Princeton compiled 47 points, followed by the Gators with 87.
On the girls' side, North Duplin junior Haley Thurston ran the 5k course in a meet-winning time of 23:03. Teammate Kandy Rangel secured second place in 24:14.
Rosewood's tandem of Elaina May (25:22) and Rebecca Fitzmaurice (25:44) seized third and fourth place, respectively. The duo helped the Eagles win the team portion with 33 points.
Princeton's Altheia Balageo took fifth individuallly with a time of 25:51.
North Duplin placed second in the team portion with 47 points. Hobbton and Lakewood scored 49 and 99 points, respectively.
