PIKEVILLE -- Zack Brewer was nearly unhittable on the bump and his Pikeville Orange teammates provided plenty of offense Monday evening.

Brewer carved out a two-hitter and Orange banged out 10 hits in a 10-0, mercy rule-shortened victory over Parrott Academy on the Eastern Carolina Baseball League scene.

"He pitched well tonight," Orange head coach John Horton said. "He's done well for us all summer. He doesn't throw it hard, but he throws strikes and that's all you can ask of him."

A right-hander, Brewer coaxed the Patriots into eight fly-ball outs and logged seven strikeouts.

Pikeville Orange (14-2 overall) seized command offensively in the bottom half of the first inning. Tyree Artis' one-out single to left field and subsequent stolen base fueled the five-run uprising.

Nolan Harrell put runners on the corners with a base knock and Artis trotted home on Blake Gipson's RBI hit to left field. Luke Frederick plated Harrell and Tyler Daniels lofted an RBI sacrifice fly to center field.

Jordan Gay capped the inning with his lone hit -- a two-RBI single up the middle that scored Frederick and Tony Whaley, who got plunked by the Parrott pitcher.

Artis, Harrell and Frederick ended the night with two hits apiece. Gipson, Gay, David Carroll and Caleb Moore (RBI) each supplied one hit.

Orange pushed across four runs in the second inning and finished off the Patriots with a single run in the fifth.

"We've hit well all summer to be a team of rising ninth-graders and sophomores," Horton said. "We go up there swinging the bat and we don't strike out a lot."

Parrott's pitching staff posted just one strikeout.

Orange returns home today for an ECBL game against Spring Creek. First pitch is 6 p.m. at Charles Davis Field.
