ECBL: Smitherman delivers game-winning hit in bottom of 8th for Pikeville Orange

PIKEVILLE -- Carson Smitherman delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning and lifted Pikeville Orange past Spring Creek, 1-0, at Charles Davis Field.
Smitherman ended the game 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Nolan Harrell, Tyler Daniels and Kaleb Moore provided one hit apiece. Harrell had a stolen base and Moore was hit by a pitch during one at-bat.
Starting pitcher Cody Whaley earned a no-decision with six innings of three-hit, five-strikeout work on the bump. Jordan Gay claimed the mound win with two innings of one-hit, three-strikeout relief.
Pikeville Orange (15-2 overall) travels to Snow Hill for a doubleheader today. First pitch is 5 p.m. at the James R. Fulghum Athletic Complex.
