SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek graduate Rachel McCollum has added her name to the N.C. High School Athletic Association record book.
McCollum posted an eye-popping .805 batting average for the year, the best single-season mark in state history. The previous mark of .779 was set by Sarah Mooney of North Mecklenburg in 2011.
A Campbell University signee, McCollum made 62 plate appearances and collected 33 hits in 41 official at-bats. Opposing pitchers walked McCollum on 20 occasions.
McCollum also made the record book's performance list for home runs with 12, which is a single-season best mark in SC history.
