NCISAA 1A playoff pairings to be announced Sunday

Wayne Christian has clinched an automatic bid to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1-A playoffs. The Eagles (10-6 overall) assured themselves of a postseason bid by winning the Carolina Christian 1-AConference regular-season title.
County rival Wayne Country Day anticipates receiving an at-large bid to the 12-team tournament, which will be announced Sunday afternoon. The top four seeds receive opening-round byes.
First-round play begins next Tuesday.
A new state champion will be crowned this season since 2014 champ Freedom Christian is now in the 2-A ranks. Lawrence Academy had won the previous six NCISAA 1-A state championships.
