Woodard carries the load
Rosewood's Mike Woodard has taken the phrase 'bellcow running back' to a new level this year. Woodard has carried the ball 154 times through five games and added 10 touchdowns to his totals. He has touched the ball more than 60 times more than the next closes running back.
"Coming in to the season just seeing our offense I knew I was going to get the ball a lot," Woodard said. "I don't mind it. I'm here and willing to do whatever the coaches need me to do."
Rosewood will likely keep riding their runner as the Eagles try win their fourth straight today against James Kenan.
Line growing up
Spring Creek's Aaron Sanders knows his young offensive line was thrown right in to the fire. But he needs them to continue to grow up quickly so his skill players can make plays if they're going to upend Hobbton tonight at "The Swamp."
The Spring Creek rushers are averaging just over 83 yards per game combined.
Payton changes role
JP Payton came in to the season expected to lead North Duplin under center. But Emiliano Mora has stepped up and taken over the quarterback duties, while Payton has established himself as the team's top runner.
He's the fifth leading rusher in the area with 297 yards rushing -- averaging more than nine yards a pop out of the team's wishbone offense.
Not our time
James Kenan head football Ken Avent Jr. warned his team that things could turn wild against Princeton.
He was right.
And the Tigers benefited both times.
Just before a bad snap on a punt, Avent Jr. called timeout. When the teams returned to the field, Ken Avent III threw a touchdown pass.
In the second half, John Brooks caught a pass from Avent III and appeared to fumble the ball. Princeton's Cam Anderson snagged it in mid-air and scored a touchdown that was called back.
Brooks was ruled down.
"The Lord just decided it wasn't our time," PHS head coach Derrick Minor said.
