Eastern Wayne swept the singles courts and cruised past Southern Wayne, 8-1, in the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams Thursday.

Elizabeth Sutton, Brennan Dove, Emily Uzzell, Kaycee Kemper, Samantha Roux and Kathryn Harrison each won on the singles courts for Eastern Wayne. Sutton-Dove and Ommunique Smith-Amanda Matthews won their doubles matches.

"This was our best overall match and a great way to finish out the regular season," EW coach Craig Hassell said. "The ladies played smart and consistent tennis. We improved as the season progressed, as our top 6 are all sophomores."

The Saints prevailed at No. 2 doubles.

Eastern Wayne (5-8 overall, 5-7 ECC) and Southern Wayne return action next Wednesday in the ECC tournament at Charles B. Aycock. Opening-round matches begin at 2 p.m.
