HERTFORD -- Callie Thornton smashed a home run and threw a complete game inside the circle during Rosewood's 10-0, opening-round victory over Perquimans in the NCHSAA Class 1-A playoffs.
Thornton permitted three hits and batted 4-for-4 at the plate, including a three-run home run in the sixth inning. Kaitlyn Pipkin tripled in the same inning, which helped spark the Eagles' offense.
Rosewood committed just two errors on defense.
"As Coach Kester mentioned to them before the game, we must maximize our hits and minimize our errors if we want to win," RHS head coach Shay Campbell said. "I think the players responded and played a very good game. While I would prefer to see us hit the ball and score early and often, sometimes things don't always go as planned."
The Eagles (11-5 overall) travel to Pinetown Northside on Friday.
