Mercer leads Eagles on soccer pitch

Lexi Mercer notched a hat trick (three goals) and two assists as Rosewood claimed a 10-1, mercy-rule win over Cape Hatteras in opening-round action of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A playoffs Wednesday evening.
Hannah Daniels (assist) and Kimberly Scott each added two goals apiece for the Eagles. Rebecca Fitzmaurice, Christine Conger and Ciera Satterfield each scored one goal.
Rosewood (12-3-4 overall) travels to Trask in second-round play.
