DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Fifth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne University pushed across six runs during a two-inning stretch and claimed a come-from-behind, 7-6 victory over the University of Mount Olive in elimination-round play of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional late Saturday evening.
The loss eliminated the eighth-seeded Trojans, who concluded the season 24-26 overall. It was the final contest for five UMO seniors -- Carly White, Katie Moore, Kalie Smith, Kassie Lowe and Nicole Taliercio.
Mount Olive built a 5-1 lead through 11/2 innings and chased L-RC starter Brandi Hole from the mound. Maryann Hoskins entered the circle and held the Trojans to a single run over the final five innings.
The Bears claimed their second win over UMO this season.
White held L-RC to a single earned run and allowed five hits in two-plus innings. Maddie Johnston gave up four earned runs on four hits during a two-inning stint, while Caitlin Ewers provided 11/3 innings of two-run, two-walk relief and took the hard-luck loss.
Tiffany Hawley paced the Trojans' offense with two hits and two RBI. Kelsey Akers batted 1-for-3 and scored three runs. Smith provided one hit and one RBI, while Moore went 1-for-3.
