Trojans 'Cruse' by Bobcats in tournament quarterfinals

MOUNT OLIVE -- Steven Cruse recorded a match-high 21 kills and the University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team advanced to the Conference Carolinas tournament semifinals with a 25-14, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21 conquest of in-state foe Lees-McRae on Wednesday evening.
The third-seeded Trojans (14-11 overall) travel to second-seeded Pfeiffer on Saturday. In the other semifinal, fifth-seeded Barton is the guest of regular-season champion Erskine (S.C.) College.
The champion earns the league's first-ever automatic bid to the newly-expanded NCAA men's volleyball championships.
Cruse recorded a .533 hitting percentage with only five errors in 30 attempts against the Bobcats. Angel Dache and Garret Dimm added 11 kills apiece, while Mike Mann had eight kills and no errors in 11 attempts to go with a team-high four blocks.
UMO compiled a .356 team hitting percentage.
Quaid Marin tallied 53 assists and served four of the Trojans' 12 team aces.
