Eastern Wayne scored four seventh-inning runs and had the game-tying run 90 feet from the plate, but suffered a 7-6, non-conference defeat to Greene Central on Wednesday.

Tyler Warren and Ryan Kelly each had two hits for the Warriors. Tanner Wells, Coy Barnett and Zach Smith added one hit apiece. Eastern Wayne owned a 9-7 edge in total hits.

"We couldn't get a timely hit," coach Jabo Fulghum said. "We got runners on but we couldn't capitalize."

Wells endured pitching loss.

One day earlier, Eastern Wayne fell 6-1 to Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference foe New Bern. The Bears' Colin Schmid threw six scoreless innings.

Ryan Faucette and Brandon Johnson registered hits for the Warriors.

Tyler Warren took the pitching loss.

The Warriors (6-10 overall) visit J.H. Rose next Tuesday.
