DUE WEST, S.C. -- Roderick Perkins triggered a second-half run with three 3-pointers and Erskine (S.C.) College cruised past the University of Mount Olive, 77-64, in a Conference Carolinas men's basketball game Wednesday evening.
Dontrell Brite pumped in 12 points for the Trojans, who endured their third consecutive defeat. Jordan McCain knocked down 11 points and John Wieland finished with 10.
Kendall Hargrove and Dory Hines pulled down 11 rebounds apiece.
UMO trailed 32-28 when Perkins collected 10 of his game-high 35 points during a three-minute span. The Flying Fleet's lead ballooned to 42-30 with 14-plus minutes remaining in regulation.
The margin swelled to as many as 15 points before baskets by Hargrove and Brite helped pull the Trojans to within 55-47 with 8:25 remaining. But Perkins answered with another 3-pointer and UMO never challenged the rest of the game.
The Trojans (8-7 overall, 2-3 CC) return home Saturday for a contest against in-state conference rival Belmont Abbey. Tip-off is 4 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.
