HIGH POINT -- Nearly 200 University of Mount Olive student-athletes earned a spot on the 2013 Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll during the fall sports season.

Nineteen Trojans posted a 4.0 grade-point average and a total of 11 UMO teams compiled a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

"We are very proud of the academic performance of our student-athletes this past semester," Jeff Eisen, UMO athletics director said. "We strive for academic excellence, and it is rewarding to see our student-athletes perform so well in the classroom."

Overall, more than 1,600 student-athletes spread among the conference's 10 member schools garnered Presidential Honor Roll recognition. The PRH recognizes student-athletes who earn a 3.2 GPA for the semester, and participate in either a conference or non-conference sponsored sport.

"The large number of student-athletes comprising the Presidential Honor Roll is pleasing, but not surprising," Alan Patterson, Conference Carolinas commissioner, said. "Conference Carolinas athletics gives more than lip service to the concept of academics and athletics working together.

"Our members live this model and the 'fifth quarter' success of educating athletes prepared for today's play and tomorrow's success is an intentional and rewarding outcome."

The PRH is awarded twice a year, and covers the fall and spring semesters.
