Warrior girls turn back D.H. Conley in double OT

Eastern Wayne opened its season with a 56-50, double-overtime win over Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference foe D.H. Conley on Tuesday evening.
The Warriors' Tianna Christopher sank a 3-pointer with 18 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 40-40.
Eastern Wayne used a 6-0 run in the second overtime period to pull away. Jasmine Covington led the Warriors with 17 points. Elondia Grant added 14 points.
"The girls play hard and they wanted to win," first-year Eastern Wayne head coach Phil Gray said. "I told them if they wanted to win and if they wanted to start the season off right somebody had to step up, and Tianna made a big shot to take us into overtime."
Eastern Wayne (1-0 overall, 1-0 ECC) visits Goldsboro on Friday.
