Rosewood's Burton shoots opening-round 79

SOUTHERN PINES -- Rosewood's Lindsey Burton trails the overall leader by five strokes after opening-round play of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Classes 1-A/2-A women's golf championships on Monday afternoon.
Burton fired a 79 on the Longleaf Golf and Country Club layout.
Teammate Taylor Gales turned in a 98, while Alana Pipkin posted a 103. Madison Overby also participated.
Rosewood logged a team total of 280.
The 36-hole tournament concludes today.
