Area soccer teams learn playoff fates

Eight teams in the News-Argus readership area have qualified for the 2013 N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.

In 3-A, county rivals Southern Wayne (9-6-1 overall) and Charles B. Aycock (8-8-1) will play Wednesday. The seventh-seeded Saints play host to South Johnston for a 6 p.m. game at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex. The 28th-seeded Golden Falcons and fifth-seeded Spartans play at 6:30 p.m.

In 1-A, Spring Creek (13-3-1) drew the No. 5 seed in the East pod and plays host to Perquimans County on Wednesday. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at "The Swamp."

Four Carolina 1-A Conference schools were placed in the Mideast pod. Regular-season champion James Kenan (12-2-2) is the No. 2 seed and entertains league foe Lakewood. A game time has not been announced.

No. 10 seed Rosewood (11-6-1) travels to Raleigh Charter, while 16th-seeded Princeton (2-15-0) is the guest of top-seeded Granville Central (16-3-1).

Greene Central and North Lenoir will battle in the 2-A ranks. The eight-seeded Rams (10-6-2) play host to Edenton Holmes, while the Hawks (6-8-2) travel to East Duplin.
