J.H. Rose shuts out Eastern Wayne

J.H. Rose took its time to get its offense going.

Eastern Wayne never did.

The Rampants scored in the fifth and the sixth innings en route to a 5-0, non-conference baseball victory in New Hope on Wednesday afternoon.

"We have a lot of new guys out there and I think we let the game get away from us," Eastern Wayne head coach Jabo Fulghum said. "We were right in the game for four innings, but when we got behind it felt like we panicked a little bit."

Eastern Wayne starting pitcher Tyler Warren held the J.H. Rose offense in check for three innings. Rampant starter Jehneil House was equally as impressive and the game remained scoreless.

The Warriors made a pitching change in the fourth inning and the Rampants got their bats going. They took the lead in the top of the fifth inning when a pair of walks set up Matt Romagna for an RBI single.

David Paylor made the game 2-0 with a base hit of his own two pitches later.

J.H. Rose added three runs in the sixth inning. An error allowed Mason Keen to reach base and J.D. Clark followed with a base hit. House belted an RBI double.

Two additional Eastern Wayne errors allowed Clark and House to score.

"We definitely did not help ourselves in that inning," Fulghum said. "When you get behind 2-0, you have to battle back and try to finish the game strong. We made a couple of errors and they led to three more runs."

Keen got the win on the pitcher's mound with three innings of no-hit relief. Brandon Johnson suffered the loss for Eastern Wayne.

The Warriors finished with three hits -- one each by Ryan Kelly, Grayson Wells and Zack Smith.

Eastern Wayne (2-3 overall) visits Southern Wayne for an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference clash on Friday night.
