DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne opened the game red hot from the field and built an early lead that proved to be too much for Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Triton on Tuesday night.
The Saints raced ahead with a 22-1 first quarter and never trailed en route to a 52-46 victory.
"Our girls played hard and the first quarter really got us going in the right direction," Southern Wayne head coach Ricky Lofton said. "We turned defense into offense in transition."
Sharonne Maultsby and Zaria Atkins led the Saints with 12 points apiece in the win. Keejah Wilson added nine points.
Southern Wayne (4-3 overall, 1-0 ECC) visits Wilson Fike on Dec. 18.
