Ayden-Grifton ends Goldsboro's year on volleyball court

AYDEN -- Goldsboro grabbed the opening set, but Ayden-Grifton rebounded for a 24-26, 25-11, 26-24, 25-18 victory in the opening round of the Carolina 1-A Conference tournament Monday evening.
The third-seeded Chargers play second-seeded Rosewood in semifinal-round action today at Princeton. The top-seeded Bulldogs oppose fourth-seeded Spring Creek, a straight-set winner over North Duplin, in the other semifinal match.
Brandy Johnson, one of two Goldsboro seniors, logged seven kills, five service aces and three blocks in her final match. It was also the finale for fellow senior Latrice Burgess.
Kaylee Lyon added three kills and three aces for the Cougars, who concluded the year 2-19 overall.
