Girls' basketball

Goldsboro 53, C.B. Aycock 48

* Goldsboro executed when it mattered most in a 53-48, non-conference win over visiting Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday evening.

Shatoria Exum's layup with a little more than two minutes to play put the Cougars ahead for good at 46-45. The Golden Falcons shot just 4 for 10 from the free line in the fourth quarter.

Talaya Lassiter's layup off an Aycock turnover increased the lead to 48-45. Lassiter later drained a pair of key free throws to help seal the victory.

Alexus Myles led Goldsboro with 12 points. Exum and Kasheika Wallace both contributed 10 points.

"I told my girls toward the end of the game they just needed to spread the floor, take care of the basketball and attack if they had an open late," Cougars' head coach LaTina Bullock said. "We had to make some adjustments offensively because of their 2-3 zone but in the end it worked out for us."

Ivy Hartzell scored a game-high 18 points for the Golden Falcons. Imari Howell had nine points.

Goldsboro (4-0 overall) travels to North Lenoir tonight, while Aycock (2-3) entertains Triton on Friday.

Lakewood 67, North Duplin 25

* SALEMBURG -- North Duplin was held to six points in the second half of a 67-25 loss at Lakewood on Tuesday evening.

Jessica Jones scored 14 points for the Rebels and Tearra Ammons had eight points. North Duplin (1-2 overall) plays host to James Kenan on Thursday.

Midway 58, Princeton 56

* Princeton came up just short in a 58-56 loss on Tuesday evening at Midway.

Savanna Massengill led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Nicole Melvin provided 12 points. Katlyn Peedin and Megan Gerrell each had nine points.

Princeton (3-3 overall) entertains Hobbton tonight.

Hunt 53, Eastern Wayne 32

* Tamiya Dortch led Eastern Wayne with six points. Taisa Marsh, Shontel Monk, Apriann Sutton and Jasmine Benjamin each scored five points.

The Warriors play host to Havelock tonight.

Boys' basketball

North Duplin 63, Lakewood 60

* SALEMBURG -- North Duplin had four players score in double figures and the Rebels hung on for a 63-60 win on Tuesday night at Lakewood.

Konner Brock and Tyler Royal both finished with 15 points. Devin Oliver added 13 points and Breyon Johnson had 11. James Kornegay contributed seven points.

North Duplin (1-2 overall) plays host to James Kenan on Thursday.

Princeton 65, Midway 57

* PRINCETON -- Princeton outlasted Midway for a 65-57 victory on Tuesday night.

A.J. Smith paced the Bulldogs with 15 points. Dalvin Stancil contributed 13 points and seven rebounds. Rusty Wallace and Aaron Simpkins both had 10 points. C.J. Jefferys added nine points and six assists.

Princeton (3-3 overall) entertains Hobbton tonight.

Southern Wayne 64, Wilson Fike 58

* WILSON -- Southern Wayne survived for a 64-58 win on Tuesday night at Wilson Fike.

Jamiel Price scored 21 points for the Saints. Trey Allen supplied 11 points and Ronnell Outlaw had 10 points.

Southern Wayne (6-1) travels to Jones Senior on Friday.

Wilson Hunt 45, Eastern Wayne 39

* Wilson Hunt slipped past Eastern Wayne for a 45-39 victory on Tuesday night in New Hope.

Josiah Davis paced Eastern Wayne with 15 points and six rebounds. Lee Atkinson and Javon Darden both contributed eight points. Darden had five rebounds.

Eastern Wayne (1-3) plays host to Havelock today.

Goldsboro Heat 46, Harnett County Homeschool 42

* SNOW HILL -- Harrison Farley scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Goldsboro Heat to a 46-42 win over Harnett County Homeschool on Tuesday night.

Blake Polan contributed 11 points and six assists. Justin Spears had eight points. The Heat (2-3) visit the Durham Flight on Saturday.

Northwood Temple 74, Wayne Christian 38

* FAYETTEVILLE -- Wayne Christian struggled to slow down Northwood Temple's offense in a 74-38 loss on Tuesday evening.

Chase Darden scored 13 points for the Eagles and Tyler Lacerda had eight points. Wayne Christian (1-8) visits Cresset Christian on Friday.

JV sports

* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro 49, C.B. Aycock 47 -- Rasheen Artis led Goldsboro with 17 points. Jaylen Moore added 16 points.

* Boys' basketball: Harnett County Homeschool 57, Goldsboro Heat 47 -- Blake Poland led the Heat with 24 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Justin Spears and Alec Linton both supplied seven points. Ty West pulled down eight rebounds. The Heat (1-1) entertain Wayne Country Day on Thursday at Free Gospel Church in Snow Hill.
