The third time was the charm.

After swimming identical times in the first two meets of the season, the Charles B. Aycock boys' 200 freestyle relay squad logged a regional-qualifying mark in the pool Tuesday evening.

The foursome of Sam Chastain, Sam Pierce, Austin Walker and Demion Creel combined to touch the wall in 1 minute, 43.83 seconds -- just 16-hundredths of a second below the automatic regional standard time designated by the N.C. High School Athletic Association.

The group improved by an incredible seven-plus seconds.

The same quartet placed third in the 200 medley relay.

Chastain emerged the runner-up in the 100 backstroke and placed fourth overall in the 50 free with a regional "consideration time" of 25.6.

Meanwhile, the usual suspects continued their winning ways and earned berths in other events for either the Class 3-A or Classes 1-A/2-A eastern regional.

Defending 1-meter state diving champion Devin Hall won his third meet of the season.

Goldsboro's Timmy Vick logged a 1-A/2-A regional time of 58.19 seconds in the 100 free, and took the 100 breaststroke. Southern Wayne's Chad Davis remained unbeaten in the 200 and 500 free events, while the Cougars' Zach Darden captured the 200 individual medley.

Logan Cole won the 50 free and 100 fly.

Charles B. Aycock's Bryce Connolly, the reigning Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference female swimmer-of-the-year, qualified for the 3-A regional in the 100 yard breaststroke with a first-place effort of 1:14.7. The senior also emerged victorious in the 100 free.

Fellow Golden Falcon Savannah Sauls won the 100 fly.

Eastern Wayne's Lilly Boyette was the lone county swimmer to place in the 200 IM with a time of 3:02.64, which was good for third overall. She also secured third in the 100 back. Fellow Warriors Jordan Everett and Tricia Malcolm were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 100 free.

Rosewood's foursome of Ciera Satterfield, Breanna Gattison, Megann Tyndall and Jessica Mitchell placed fourth in the 200 free relay. Satterfield was fifth in the 100 back, while Mitchell was fifth in the 50 free.

Goldsboro's Kristin Hudelston seized fifth overall in the 200 free and sixth in the 100 free.
