Hunt runs over Charles B. Aycock

WILSON -- One team looked in mid-season form.

The other looked lost.

Wilson Hunt controlled the game from the opening kick and delivered a 56-14 beating to Charles B. Aycock on Friday evening.

The Warriors started strong behind a potent passing attack. On their first possession, quarterback Jacob Page found Tyrell Vinson for a 24-yard scoring strike. On the team's first possession of the second quarter, tailback Caleb Driver found the end zone from seven yards out and put the Warriors ahead 14-0.

Driver was just getting warmed up.

After the Golden Falcons cut the Warriors' lead to 14-7 on a 21-yard pass from Tyler Farmer to Elijah Murray with 10 minutes and 13 seconds to play in the second period, Driver broke a 77-yard touchdown run that immediately killed any momentum that the visitors may have gained.

"(Driver) did a nice job of stretching our defense out by getting to the edge," said C.B. Aycock head coach Randy Pinkowski. "Either we wouldn't get to the edge in time to stop him, or our guys would over pursue and he would cut back and burn us."

Driver capped a spectacular first half with a 61-yard scoring run on the next Warriors' drive. The speedy ball carrier tallied 220 yards and three touchdowns before the intermission. All of that damage came on 10 carries.

Already ahead 28-7, Hunt opened the third quarter with a methodical drive that took five minutes off the clock and culminated with a one-yard scoring run by fullback Everton Jones. Things continued to snowball on the Golden Falcons on their next possession when an errant pitch was scooped up by Vinson and returned 55 yards to pay dirt.

Leading 42-7 at the end of three quarters, Hunt found time for several backups in the final period.

"You cannot afford to have a bad night against a team that is as good as Hunt," said Pinkowski. "If you start slowly and turn the ball over, this is what happens to you."

Marquis Bryant capped the Golden Falcons' scoring with a 27-yard scamper in the fourth quarter. Vinson immediately answered by running the ensuing kickoff back for a 65-yard touchdown that capped the Warriors' night and settled the tally in Hunt's favor.

The Warriors tallied 473 yards of total offense to just 213 for the Golden Falcons. Bryant led Aycock's ground game with 45 yards on seven carries. Farmer completed 14 passes for 111 yards.

C.B. Aycock (2-4 overall) will enjoy a bye week before opening Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play Oct. 8 at home against North Lenoir.
