Wayne Christian got off to a hot start and never looked back in a 17-0 mercy-rule shortened victory over Community Christian on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning as the Cyclones faltered in the field.

Reagan Hinton and Rachel McCollum belted back-to-back triples to open the frame. Sarah McCollum and Kayla Kennedy each drew a walk and Courtney Barrow delivered a sacrifice fly. Taylor Vanderpool walked, Tiffany Price singled and Victoria Combs walked to load the bases.

Hinton was issued an RBI free pass and Rachel McCollum belted a two-run single. Kennedy capped the eight-run outburst with an RBI triple.

"Games like this are fun because everyone gets to play and get in the game," Eagles' head coach Roger Longwell said. "We had some issues with base running and we didn't do everything perfect but we played well."

The eight run lead was more than enough for McCollum in the pitcher's circle.

A seventh-grader, McCollum tossed a four-inning no hitter. She missed a perfect game by issuing a walk in the top of the third inning.

"We have a lot of young players, seventh and eighth graders," said Longwell. "We need games like this to work out all of the kinks and get ready for the big games at the end of the year."

Sarah McCollum provided a game-ending highlight in the bottom of the fourth when she ripped an inside the park home run off the fence in left center-field. McCollum finished the game with six RBI.

Wayne Christian (6-1 overall) will be back in action on Thursday when they host Wayne Country Day.
