Brandi Dean recorded her fifth hat trick of the season as Eastern Wayne blanked Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent North Lenoir 3-0 on Monday evening in New Hope.

Dean opened the scoring in the ninth minute off an assist from Janielle Daniel. She scored an unassisted goal in the 39th minute and scored off an assist from Daniel in the 39th minute.

Dean's hat trick is her fifth of the season, which is the most by any male or female player in school history.

Warriors' goalie Danielle Daniel earned her fifth shutout of the season. Eastern Wayne outshot North Lenoir 19-1.

The Warriors (6-4, 4-0 ECC) visit South Johnston on Wednesday while the Hawks (3-5-1, 0-4 ECC) travel to Charles B. Aycock.

Baseball

Eagles prevail

Senior Luke Howell tossed a complete game and Wayne Christian defeated Carolina Christian 1-A Conference opponent Community Christian 9-7 on Monday afternoon.

Stephen Gallagher finished with three hits for the Eagles including a home run. Travis Thomas and Dylan Smith both provided two hits. Chandler Harrell and Gregory Johnson both had a hit.

Wayne Christian (8-8) travels to Trinity of Durham today.

Tennis

Chargers earn win

Wayne Christian picked up an 8-1 win over Eastern Wayne junior varsity squad on Monday afternoon in New Hope.

Taylor Gray, Christopher Easom, Daniel Glover, Woody Sasser, Kenneth Giordano and Matthew Thompson were all winners in singles play for the Eagles.

The doubles teams of Glover/Easom and Sasser/Giordano were also victorious.

Allen Nilles and Sawyer Thompson collected the lone doubles victory for the Warriors.

Wayne Christian (5-0, 1-0 CCC) visits Carolina Christian 1-A Conference opponent Trinity Academy today.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Wayne Christian 17, Oakwood 3 -- Austin Howell, Brandon Price and Chandler Gentry each had two hits for the Eagles (5-3). Tyler Mozingo also added a hit. Howell, Bryce Norman, Cameron Foss and Tanner Rose combined to tally 11 strikeouts on the mound.
