The numbers in the shot column was just as telling the ones on the scoreboard.

Two-time defending N.C. Independent 1-A Christian Schools state champion Community Christian outshot Wayne Christian 19-1 on its way to a 4-0 Carolina Christian 1-A Conference road win on Monday afternoon.

The Cyclones held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks in the first half.

Madison Davis got Community on the scoreboard in the 14th minute as she scored off an assist from Janae Brown. Catherine Smith's high tailing shot in the 36th minute beat Eagles' keeper Kaitlyn Kosuda.

The Cyclones outshot Wayne Christian 9-1 in the opening 40 minutes.

"We haven't practiced in over a week because of spring break but neither have they," said Eagles head coach Daryl Anderson. "In the first half I thought we were flat. We just came out of the gate asleep and on our heels. I think if we had a couple of practices it might have been different. They have a good team and they know how to play."

Alexa Zolman scored on a long run through the Wayne Christian defense in the 47th minute. Graysen Smith capped the scoring in the 76th minute.

Kosuda finished with 10 saves including seven in the second half.

The Eagles (3-3, 3-1 CCC) generated a few scoring opportunities in the second half but crossing passes appeared to be early, late or never came.

"When you have everyone playing in the defensive third it's hard to generate offense," said Anderson. "They're a lot faster than we are. They just controlled the ball. We had a couple of good chances we just couldn't get a cross. If we could have gotten a cross we had people open."
