MOUNT OLIVE -- Jackson Massey, who pitched a career-high 7 2/3 innings in nationally seventh-ranked Mount Olive's series-opening win over No. 20 Erskine, has been named Conference Carolinas Baseball Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. Massey becomes the second Mount Olive pitcher and fifth Trojan baseball player overall to earn a conference weekly award this season.

Massey, a senior left-hander from Eureka pitched the Trojans to a 5-2 win at Erskine in the opening game of the three-game series this past Friday. Massey scatted eight hits, struck out four and walked only one to hold the Flying Fleet seven runs below their average. He came within four outs of pitching a complete game before Erskine began to put together a rally with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. Massey's win helped Mount Olive clinch the regular season conference title and earn the No. 1 seed in this weekend's conference tournament.

MOC Volleyball

Christiaan Rombaut was named Player of the Year, Adam Miracle was selected as Freshman of the Year and Cole Tallman won Coach of the Year as Mount Olive swept the top three honors on the 2010 All-Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Team. Joining Rombaut on the All-Conference Team were teammates Noel Garcia, Jose Lanier and Felix Reimundo as the Trojans captured four of the seven spots.

By virtue of winning the regular season title, Mount Olive earns the top seed and plays host to No. 2 seed Lees-McRae in the 2010 Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship. Match time is 3 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.

Softball is 5th seed

By virtue of Tuesday's doubleheader split between Anderson and Belmont Abbey, Mount Olive is the No. 5 seed in this weekend's Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament and face No. 4 seed Anderson in the first round at 10 a.m. on Friday. The Trojans are assured of playing two games Friday and live video webcasts will be available for both games.

Reinhard honored

By virtue of Tuesday's

Aubrey Reinhard, who batted .500 and drove in seven runs in four games last week, has been named Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. Reinhard extended her hitting streak to nine and raised her season batting average more than 30 points to .407.

Reinhard, a sophomore first baseman from Goldsboro (Rosewood HS), drove in what proved to be the winning run in the Trojans' 6-5 game one victory at Lees-McRae Sunday.
