AYDEN -- Rosewood invoked the mercy-rule in the sixth inning of its 11-1 win over Carolina 1-A Conference rival Ayden-Grifton on Friday night.
Matt Neal earned the victory on the pitcher's mound. Neal tossed a complete game, allowed three hits and struck out 13 Chargers.
Cody Harris led the Eagles at the plate with two hits, including a two-run home run. Neal also tallied two base hits. Taylor Price and Jonathan Franks each recorded one hit and one RBI respectively.
Rosewood (4-4, 1-0 CC) will host Goldsboro on Tuesday.
Rebels roll
CALYPSO -- North Duplin remained perfect on the season with a 24-3 win over Goldsboro in five innings on Friday.
The Rebels sent 19 men to the plate en route to a 16-run first inning. James Kornegay led the victors offensively with a three-hit performance that included a home run and three RBI.
Mitchell Thigpen earned the mound win for the Rebels.
Asjhani Maddox belted a three-run home run for Goldsboro. Needham Coor took the mound defeat for the Cougars.
North Duplin (6-0, 1-0 CC) will host Princeton on Tuesday.
Softball
Falcons fall
FOUR OAKS -- South Johnson held off Charles B. Aycock 17-14 on Friday.
Brooke Bell (RBI) and Sarah Beth Marquis led the Golden Falcons with three hits apiece. Autumn Pittman, Rachel Jordan and Cara Frederick all had two hits and two RBI.
Pittman took the loss in the pitcher's circle.
Aycock (5-3, 1-1 ECC) entertains Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.
JV sports
* Baseball: North Lenoir 13, Southern Wayne 6 -- Southern Wayne could not escape the big inning as the Hawks put up eight runs in the top of the fifth. Cody Wendorf took the mound loss. Sam Ferrell led the Saints with two hits and a stolen base. Matt Sparks added an RBI double. Southern Wayne fell to 3-4.
* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 2, South Johnston 1-- Cameron Taylor (RBI), Zach Allen (RBI), Adam Pate, Collin DuBose and Blake Sutton each provided one hit for the Golden Falcons. DuBose worked a scoreless inning of relief to earn the win on the mound. Aycock (9-0) visits Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.
